Getting ready for our native plant sale

On Monday evening a small group of 3 NPS'ers joined Rob Crandall at Methow Natives to pot up seedlings for our forthcoming plant sale next May.

In addition to having fun and learning quite a bit about technique, soil, and requirements of different plants.

We also accomplished a lot,  potting up 11 flats of the following varieties:

2 grasses
Carex pachystachya
Juncus ensifolius

2 Penstemons
P. serrulatus
P. fruticosus

2 shrubs
Philadelphus lewisii
Sambucus cerulea   (the UW Herbarium only listed S. nigra & S. racemosa so don't know if this name has been changed)

Plus one lone Alder.

Rob also reported that he had already potted up flats of Eriogonum heracleides, E. umbellatum, E. strictum and Penstemon pruinosus.

So we are well on our way to a nice selection of plants to sell.  In September, possibly Monday the 16th, we will have another potting session to plant Junegrass, Bluebunch grass, and Serviceberry.

As a bonus, the workers each got to take home a penstemon.
